problems renewing ssl certificate on iis5

I've got a server running iis5, and I'm trying to renew the ssl certificate, but every time I try to install the new one.. i get this stupid error. Oh... and what's worse, it seems that you can't use periods or commas in the organization name and things.

any help is much appreciated

Re: problems renewing ssl certificate on iis5

You are experiencing a bug in iis5. Here's what you need to do.

1. create a bogus site on the server
2. create a new ssl cert request
3. send the request to verisign or whoever
4. when you get the cert back from verisign, complete the "pending request"
5. go to the live site... and choose to "transfer" an ssl certificate
6. choose the new ssl that you just installed. this will replace the old one
7. you now have a "renewed" ssl cert

8. write a letter to microsoft cuz maintaining their servers is a pain

good fishing,

Re: Re: problems renewing ssl certificate on iis5

It looks like service pack 4 for windows 2000 server fixed some of the above annoyances.

You still need to create a temporary site, generate the cert, and transfer it... but it's better than before :)
